What it's like
This is a simple sandstone rock pool at the northern end of Bondi, protected from the surf and good for a sheltered swim at high tide. Because it drains with every low tide, it is never cleaned and changes all day with the sea.
Wally Weekes was a founding member and the first club captain of the Bondi lifesaving club, formed in 1907. Waverley Council's history credits him with leading the team that cut this pool from the foreshore rock as a safe place for children to learn to swim. He died in 1948.
When to go
Around high tide on a calm day; at low tide it is empty.
Getting there and facilities
Walk to the northern end of Bondi Beach; the pool is just behind the North Bondi Children's Pool. A playground, barbecues and toilets are nearby.
Good to know
There are no lifeguards at the pool. The sandstone is slippery when wet.
