What it's like
The pool sits on the rock platform where Narrabeen Lagoon meets the sea, with the lagoon entrance on one side and the surf on the other. A timber boardwalk runs down the middle: on one side a 50 m lap pool used by swimming clubs, on the other a wider, more relaxed pool for everyone else. The boardwalk is part of the original design and has been rebuilt many times.
With a calm lagoon next door, North Narrabeen waited longer than other beaches for a rock pool. It was built during the Depression and opened in March 1935. The local swimming clubs moved here from the lagoon, and clubs still race in it in summer and winter.
When to go
Early mornings are for lap swimmers and club members. A learn-to-swim program runs from December to the end of February. Council publishes a dated cleaning roster, and the pool is out of use for about three hours before each cleaning time and up to twelve hours after, depending on the seas.
Getting there and facilities
The pool is off Narrabeen Park Parade, with pay-and-display parking opposite the Lakeside Caravan Park. There are change rooms, showers and toilets, and a cafe nearby.
Good to know
There are no lifeguards at the pool. The lagoon entrance can run with strong currents, so stay in the pool rather than swimming out from it.
